Two Suspects Arrested in Connection with Stolen Vehicle and Firearm Possession St Maarten

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – October 1, 2024 – On the afternoon of Monday, September 30, 2024, at approximately 5:30 PM, officers of the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM), while conducting a routine traffic control in the Philipsburg area, apprehended two male suspects, identified by the initials B.D.B. and A.M.D.R., in connection with the possession of a stolen vehicle and an illegal firearm.

During the operation, law enforcement officers stopped a gray Hyundai i-10 for inspection. Upon further examination of the vehicle, it became evident that the Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) had been tampered with, suggesting that the vehicle was stolen. The driver, identified as B.D.B., was immediately taken into custody, and the car was seized pending further investigation.

The driver informed officers that he had rented the vehicle from an acquaintance, whom he then contacted to clarify the situation. Shortly thereafter, a second male suspect, identified as A.M.D.R., arrived at the scene on a scooter, claiming ownership of the Hyundai i-10. Officers explained to A.M.D.R. that the vehicle was suspected to be stolen due to the tampered VIN. As a result, A.M.D.R. was also arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the scooter, officers discovered a concealed firearm beneath the seat. The firearm was confiscated, and A.M.D.R. now faces additional charges for the illegal possession of a firearm.

The Sint Maarten Police Force reminds the public that these types of traffic controls will be conducted regularly as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and combat illegal activities. Investigations into this matter are ongoing, and authorities remain committed to ensuring that all individuals involved are held accountable.
