HUREX 2025 Training Exercise – Temporary Airport & Road Closures Set for June 17
SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) – Preparations for Hurricane Exercise 2025 (HUREX 2025) are progressing swiftly as the country readies for a full-scale disaster response drill. Scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, the live exercise will test Sint Maarten’s readiness at operational, tactical, and strategic levels.
The Princess Juliana International Airport will close temporarily from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM as part of the drill. Additionally, nearby roads around the Airport Road and Simpson Bay Lagoon will be inaccessible to vehicular traffic during the exercise. Authorities will announce specific road closures shortly.

This comprehensive training event will evaluate the current disaster response system and strengthen the country’s strategic disaster management capabilities. The exercise will simulate real-life emergency scenarios, activating all 10 Emergency Support Functions (ESFs), the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and various supporting partners.

Military units, emergency services, and personnel from governmental, semi-governmental, and non-governmental organizations will participate. Residents can expect to see increased emergency vehicle movement and uniformed personnel across the area. Authorities urge the public to remain calm, as this is only a drill.
HUREX 2025 ensures participating agencies practice coordination and reinforce response protocols. This regular exercise enhances national resilience by allowing all partners to assess their roles and responsibilities under simulated crisis conditions.
The Office of Disaster Management and the Fire Department, operating under the Ministry of General Affairs, are leading this initiative. Through collaboration, the nation aims to ensure a robust and unified disaster response strategy.
Sint Maarten remains committed to public safety and preparedness. The community’s cooperation on June 17 will support the success of this essential emergency readiness exercise.
