National Detectives Probe Video of Alleged Altercation Involving PFP MP
PHILIPSBURG – National Detectives (Landsrecherche) launched an active investigation into a video that surfaced on social media, reportedly showing a physical altercation involving an individual believed to be a Member of Parliament (MP) affiliated with the Party for Progress (PFP).
The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed in a press release that authorities began the investigation in April 2025, shortly after the video’s online release.
Because National Detectives focus on criminal conduct involving government officials and civil servants, they took charge of the case promptly.
Although officials have not confirmed the identities of those involved,

Minister of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sport (ECYS) Melissa Gumbs addressed the issue directly during a recent parliamentary session.
As both minister and PFP leader, Gumbs responded after the video allegedly showing PFP MP Raeyhon Peterson in a physical confrontation with another individual began to circulate widely.“This situation is serious,” Gumbs declared. “The person involved remains a valued and trusted member of my party.
He has accepted full responsibility for his actions and recognizes the broader consequences—both for public trust and for the example we set for our young people.

”Moreover, Gumbs emphasized that the PFP holds accountability as a core value.
Therefore, the party will not interfere and will instead allow the relevant authorities to complete a thorough investigation. She confirmed that the alleged incident occurred on April 8, 2025.

The issue came to light during a Central Committee meeting on the draft 2025 budget, when National Alliance (NA) MPs Egbert Doran and Ardwell Irion raised concerns about the role of public figures in promoting non-violence, particularly in schools. In response,
Gumbs expressed appreciation for the opportunity to clarify the party’s stance. “As party leader, I want to state clearly: the PFP will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation to uncover exactly what occurred,” she said.As of now, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has not issued further statements. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
