Stop Accepting NAf 100 Banknotes Immediately, CBCS Warns

Counterfeit NAf 100 notes are circulating in Curaçao. The Centrale Bank van Curaçao en Sint Maarten (CBCS) has issued a strong warning. The public must stop accepting these notes immediately. This warning remains in effect until the end of the co-circulation period on July 1, 2025.

The fake bills are difficult to detect. Many appear with trimmed edges. Some claim the damage is due to fire. However, upon closer review, these notes are fake.

Such activity is common during currency transitions. CBCS has warned about this risk before. Criminals try to push fake currency into the system during these transitions. Due to a sharp rise in counterfeit cases, the CBCS sees urgent need for action.

Do not accept NAf 100 notes. If you already have one, get it checked. You can visit the CBCS office in Scharloo. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Bring valid ID.

CBCS is working with police and judicial authorities. Their goal: stop the spread and find the source. Possessing or using counterfeit money is a serious crime. It is punishable by up to nine years in prison.
